LANSING—Today, the Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) approved a $2 million Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant to support Founders Brewing Company’s most recent expansion efforts, said Sen. Dave Hildenbrand, R-Lowell.
“Founder’s has been a company dedicated to the city of Grand Rapids and the state of Michigan since day one,” said Hildenbrand. “That dedication is being recognized today, and I commend Founders for their continued investment in our community.”
Founders Brewing Company began operations in 1997 with a sparse tap room and small production facility. In 2007, the company relocated to its current Grand Rapids facility to support customer demand. Over the past five years, it has increased production by 15 times and has a network of 62 distributors across 23 states.
“Investments by small businesses like Founders is proof the reforms made by the Legislature are working and will allow for similar investments in the future,” Hildenbrand said. “I would like to thank the MSF for recognizing the hard work of Founders Brewing and look forward to the positive impact this investment will have on the city of Grand Rapids and the state of Michigan.”
The Michigan Business Development Program provides grants, loans and other economic assistance to qualified businesses that make investments or create jobs in Michigan, with preference given to businesses that need additional assistance for deal-closing and for second stage gap financing.
